On the 11th of November 2011, our event “Swara Veda” will bring together some of the biggest names of the music fraternity on one stage for the noble cause of spreading awareness about the deed of charity. Among the performers would be Mr. Giridhar Udupa hailed as the “King of Pot Music” by Rave magazine and one of the leading musicians in the world of rhythm.

Born and raised in a family  of music and literature, Giridhar started playing  at the tender age of 4 under the tutelage of his father well known Mridangam artist, Vidwan  Ullur Nagendra Udupa and later was tutored under Vidushi Ghatam Sukanya Ramgopal and Vidwan Ghatam V.Suresh .

He is known to be an innovative player of the Ghatam, the Indian clay pot. Along with the Ghatam, he is also skilled at playing other percussion instruments such as Mridangam, Khanjira and Morsing. A versatile musician, he has been part of many Global Symphony and Chamber Orchestras such as the Fairfax Shymphony Orchestra Kwazulu – Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, State Philharmonic Orchestra of Sibiu , Sinfonia Baltica , Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Symphonic Orchestra of Oman .

He is also the founder of Layathranga, a team of Indian Classical Musicians who infuse elements of folk music, classical and world music and Nasha which are his fusion projects.  He is also a part of the band Indialucia in which he has partnered with Flamenco artists from Poland.

Apart from being a renowned performer, he also conducts workshops across the world and has composed and conducted for many world music projects.

He conducts lectures and workshops to inform people about South Indian percussions and Indian rhythm. He was also the first Indian percussionist to perform at the Krakow International Percussion Festival, a prestigious event in the world of percussion, on a special invitation from the organizers.

A dexterous and fluid player of the ghatam, he has won accolades from all over the world and always mesmerizes and captivates the audience with his performance.

Catch him live at Swaraveda on the 11th of November at the Gachibowli Indoor Staduium, Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad between 6.00pm to 9.00pm.
