Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan learned his craft from his father, Ustad Aziz Khan, and is the seventh generation heir to the sitar’s first family, the Etawah Gharana. Ustadji, as he was popularly known, is considered as the most brilliant musical gems of the famous Etawah Gharana and was given credit for pushing its boundaries to even greater heights.
Ustadji’s reputation as an inspiring performer is complemented by another gift that of spreading his music as a dedicated and loving guru. He has performed in all major musical festivals in India and abroad including the Festival of India held in the US, Europe, USSR, Canada, Middle East, Africa and Australia, enthralling the audience everywhere.
Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan has received immense love, affection, awards and accolades from the music loving fraternity worldwide. He is a Top Grade artist of A.I.R. and a recipient of numerous national and international awards including the ‘Sur Shringaar’, the ‘Kumar Gandharva Samman’, the “M.L. Koser Award’, just to name a few. He is also a recipient of the prestigious ‘Sangeet Natak Academy Award’ of 2006.
By sheer precision and an astute artistic sense Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan has made for himself a place in the universe of Indian classical music. Rajasthan Patrika had once labeled Ustad Shahid Parvez as the future of Sitar and that the future of Sitar is still bright after Pandit Ravi Shankarji.
